I am up before the sun and I do not stop. Whether I am on the tools or running the crew, the day runs me. Servo coffee and a pie for breakfast, whatever is quick for lunch, and by knock-off I am ready for a few cold ones with the boys, which turns into more than a few most nights.
The work is good honest work and I am proud of it. But somewhere along the line the business, or the boss, started running my whole life. The body is sore in ways it did not used to be, the gut is creeping out, and the plans I had for what all this graft was meant to buy have gone quiet.
I do not want to be the old boy on site still saying he will sort himself out one day, still saying it at fifty. I want the work to build a life, not just fill the days until I am too worn out to enjoy any of it.
Why willpower alone has not worked
You are knackered by the time you have anything left for yourself. Willpower is long gone by knock-off, so the good intentions from Monday morning never survive contact with a hard week on site and a cold beer in the esky.
